Destiny 2: Shadowkeep. Revival or Revolting?

Destiny has had a lot of controversy recently, after the first game the franchise was stronger than ever; it had a loyal fan-base that was willing to put in the twenty to thirty hour grind just to be able to get their foot into the multiplayer content. It had good Player Vs Player and Player Vs Environment (PvP and PvE from now on), and even had a devoted app to helping their players find groups to do strikes, and eventually massive raids to, you guessed it, get even stronger gear. Despite their leap forward with communication there were some issues. Bungie wouldn’t listen to everything that their community would cry for; the random number generation (RNG from here on out.) that was used for the loot was inconsistent. It would drop multiple identical “Exotic” tier weapons; basically if you had picked up the Ace of Spades revolver it seemed like you were more likely to get another Exotic of the same name.
**********Mild Spoiler Alert for a 2 Year Old Game**********
When Destiny 2 launched it had an almost cult following, but it was almost too similar to the first game. In the beginning of the game they do something interesting, they take away your “Light”. It’s basically what allows you to fight all of the baddies that you run into across the galaxy. You lose your “Super” and you are basically just a man/woman/robot with a weapon fighting insane odds. While this was a cool concept it only lasted thirty minutes (if that) of game time. This teaser of a more in depth story-line scorned the fan-base. Nothing seemed new, it was basically just a re-release of an older game.
The fan-base began to scatter, my own fireteam left as soon as they beat the only raid in the game. My own desire to play died when they left. They, like the fan-base, were upset with the way that the production team had decided to run their game, in a nutshell they left because of the busted RNG and the too similar feel to the first game.
But that’s all about to change, or so Bungie wants to say. They split from Activision in January 2019. They have since made all previous versions of Destiny 2 free to play. The new Downloadable Content (DLC from now on) is supposed to revitalize the franchise. Now there will be armor customization, a whole new artifact system to add additional buffs to your character, and a mode called “New Light” which will allow you to jump into the additional content that is typically at the end of that twenty hour grind right as you start the game. Bungie is removing the barriers to play this game which, I think, will revive a series that has brought a lot of joy to a lot of people. I for one look forward to the next step that Bungie takes.
