Games to Keep an Eye on

So, I know what you’re thinking once again, my infamous straw man argument in the corner of my very dark office. “Brandon. You’ve talked about a few games that you recommend, but what about the new, or new adjacent, games?” Well, Strawman. I’m really glad that you asked!

I want to highlight two games, one for post release updates, and another for new releases that people are holding out for. I’ll be releasing another article later in the week to kinda showcase some additional games.

Let’s talk about Cyberpunk 2077. I preordered it and played it on launch, and by god I was unimpressed. It was a game that was being developed for nearly a decade, came out during a time when everyone wanted to stay at home and play video games, and still managed to flounder their release. The game had enough hype behind it to secure insane preorders and gather a cult following.

While they may have kinda screwed up, majorly, they have released a bunch of patches (which can be seen in totality here) and plan on continuing to fix issues with their current game. There are a few bugs that I can recite from memory, from my own playthrough, that have been fixed. The cop spawning, this was a massive issue with people who wanted to feel immersed in the game. After making the cops seem like a huge deal in an intro cutscene, cops just kinda spawn all around you. No cop cars, no high speed chases, just spawning actively as you go around Night City. This has been fixed to a degree, they still spawn off screen, they just do it a bit better and farther away now. Another bug that has been kinda fixed is the crowd generation. The crowds seemed extremely life-like, until you turned around and realized that they despawned as soon as you looked away. I felt so heartbroken when I saw a cool npc out of the corner of my eye, turned and there was no one in sight.

According to this video -

They have fixed these issues, and are committed to fixing other issues. I don’t think that I’ll believe it until I see it, but it may be worth keeping an eye on the price of Cyberpunk. If it drops below 50 bucks, I think that it would be worthwhile to snag.

They also knew about these bugs, which you can read about here

Another game to keep an eye on is Warhammer 40k: Darktide. Quick question, you ever played Left 4 Dead? Or Vermintide? Well this is that type of game but set in the Warhammer 40k universe. Me and my friends, who are definitely huge nerds, are extremely excited for this game’s release. It is a 4 player co-op game that sets you and three friends up against an unstoppable horde. So, how do you stop it? No idea, I haven't played the game. Duh. But I can say that the promos for the game are phenomenal.

The rest of this bit is speculation based on a two minute video that you can find here below.

It looks like you play as a group of Inquisitors for the Imperium of Mankind hunting either Warp Cultists, or a Tyranid threat. Not quite sure about the enemy, but the horde enemy looks to be humans with a few monstrous special enemies thrown into the mix. Though, I haven’t seen any of those yet, but if you know the horde survival genre, you’ll know that there are gonna be some beefy enemies, as well as some tricky enemies. But only time will tell if this game follows in the footsteps of Cyberpunk, or if it will actually deliver on it’s promises on release.

Here's a website on Darktide. This should answer any other questions.

Oh also, Warhammer Lore is really deep and really interesting, for more information on Warhammer 40k, check out this site. And if anyone figures out a good site for Warhammer Fantasy lore, please let me know.

All right, you made it to the end of this blog post. I recon I should give you a bit of background on me, and why I consider myself a bit of a couch expert on video games. I've been a gaming consumer for a solid 20~ years. Since I was a wee lad when I see a game on a screen I'm practically glued to it. This is also true with sports and (some) other media properties. Because of this I feel like I could give an everyman's opinion on some trending news in gaming. It's no secret that Cyberpunk was scuffed on launch, but not many gaming journalists are willing to give it another chance, and take another look at the game to shit on the game entirely. Most gaming journalists are also more journalists than gamers. I think that's clear to see. I'm trying to close this gap and report on important gaming news as a hobby. That's the whole goal here.

Go on, get, there's nothing else down here.
